PostSubject: Sports car build - Melbourne   Fri Jun 03, 2011 8:26 pm

Finally decided to do something about posting a couple of pics of the Sports car I am building.

Tube chassis
Independant front suspension with Yamaha R6 shocks/pull rod
De Dion rear suspension / Yamaha R6 Shocks push rod
Toyota 4AGE 16V (modified) 6 speed transmission - east west mounted
Toyota MR2 brakes/steering
Body - undecided as yet
floor mount pedals
Based on plans i bought from the good old USA ! but have modified just about everything.

Thanks for the positive comment, I will include a few more pics of the build progress.
The De Dion is coming along, hopefully it will be finished in about 2 - 3 weeks.

The plans are based on using Toyota MR2, AW11 parts but you can literally use anything especially motor / gearbox wise.

The plans are available from here www.grabercars.com

I have made some more progress with the De Dion.

A front end shot , just for a change...

Thanks for the comments Stefan, yes it is interesting and frustrating at the same time, like all build projects some days you make great progress and others weeks go by before you see the fruits of your labour.

I will post a few more pictures soon.

This is the WOB link I will be using to locate the De Dion.

I am having some bushes made up, once they are done, I will be able to finish this step of the build.

Finished mounting the fuel tank and pedals. there will be an alloy box over the tank and a tube for my legs to be in.

Just waiting on some machined parts to be made before I can finish the De Dion and drop it on the ground. Surprised

I changed my plans and will now fit aToyota Black top 20v with 6 speed and LSD......

I managed to mount the radiator today, I have layed it down and will have a duct around it to direct the air out through a hole that willbe in the bonnet.

Hi all, well a few things have happened over the last few months, some good some bad.

The good is I now have a 'roller' and I will be starting to install the engine/gearbox before the new year!

The bad is the Victorian Hillclimb panel have altered the class capacity regulations up to 2,000 cc from 1,600 cc. While I know this is not a huge change it is to me when the whole build was based around the 1,600 cc capacity, as a result I am building a car for a class that now does not exist and have a 20% capacity handicap against others. I will not start my rant !

Anyway, I am very happy with the build so far...

Well the engine / gearbox is finally in with all engine mounts made, I will post some photos soon ( when I take them ) I finally feel that there is light at the end of the build tunnel, but still a long way to go.

I will most likley regret this statement, but, it WILL be finished by the end of this year !!! Shocked
